Water, Sanitation & Hygiene for Mountainous Rural Communities in Western Uganda
Access to basic needs like water and sanitation across the mountain block of Mt Rwenzori communities across kasese, Bunyangabu, Kabarole and Bundibugyo districts remain a key challenge due to the mountain formation.
Mothers and children from homesteads walk a long steepy distances for search of water and yet most mountain valleys have unopened sources of water that drop in small quantities.
These sources, need openings to construct water wells, plant bamboo threes around the water wells to protect them during rainy season from running rain water with chunks of soil that would cover them.
Members from these communities lack safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene. Economic sustainable development goal for humanity aim to ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all communities. Water, sanitation and hygiene practices, all of which are essential to human development.Mountainous multiple schools in these areas do not access safe drinking water and yet water in schools is very essential.
With this in mind, Snow Home Alliance For Skills Development, invite partners around the world in this sector to fund Mt Rwenzori Rural community water project by constructing three water wells per parish in all Mountainous sub-counties of kasese, Bunyangabu, Kabarole and Bundibugyo districts. Funding this project will mitigate deadly challenges currently being faced by communities.
The impact of improved sanitation on health outcomes and other benefits is evident, for instance, 25% of the disease burden in children under 5 years is preventable by reducing environmental risks-including those arising from inadequate safe water, sanitation and hygiene practices. Diarrhea disease cause about 10% of all death of children under 5 years. Furthermore, other many conditions that affect homes or families are associated to this need.
